Dubai Overview

So far, you have heard about 4 buildings. The Burj Al Arab, the Princess Tower, the Burj Khalifa, and the Almas Tower. Let me go over the 4 buildings that were in my previous blogs post briefly before so you can be up to date before I give you one last amazing building in Dubai.

The Burj Al Arab is the tallest building in the world. It is 828 meters (2,717 feet) tall. It is estimated to cost $1.5 billion USD. The Burj Al Arab is the "tallest building in the world used exclusively as a hotel at the time of its completion" (Source: List of Tallest Buildings in Dubai). The building is 321 meters (1,153 feet) tall. It cost around $650 million. The Princess Tower is the the "tallest all-residential building in the world" (Source: List of Tallest Buildings in Dubai). It is 414 meters (1,358 feet tall). It costs $210 million USD. And finally, the Almas Tower. It is known as the "tallest all-office building in the city" (Source: List of Tallest Buildings in Dubai). It is 360 meters (1,180 feet) tall. These buildings added together cost more than $2.7 billion USD. Keep in mind that these are only 4 buildings in the city of Dubai. If 4 cost that much, how much does the whole city cost? These are the 4 truly remarkable buildings that I have talked about so far. And now for the final building.

The last building I will be talking about is the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai hotel. It is classified as the largest hotel in the world. It stands 355 meters (1,165 feet) tall. The structural material is concrete. It contains 82 stories above ground and 2 stories below ground. It has 14 elevators which can go as fast as 6 m/s. It has 804 rooms and 1045 parking spaces. If each room has one car, that leaves about 241 spaces for staff and visitors. the construction began in 2006 and finished in 2012. It is ranked #27 tallest building in the world, #8 in the Middle East, #6 in UAE, and #6 in Dubai. What is truly remarkable is that this complex is made up of two buildings. One finished in 2012 and one finished in 2013. So think about it this way, you have one hotel, made up of two buildings, that are completely that same. Lets add this up. 804 rooms and 14 elevators times 2. That is 1,608 rooms and 28 elevators. The hotel contains restaurants, bars, business centers, conference halls, banquet halls, spas, health clubs, a gym, and a pool. Lets say you book a one night standard room. It would cost you 1050 AED + tax and other fees. Your total for one person for one night would roughly come out to $350 USD. Now that you know a little about the building, lets tell you the cost of it. The total cost for the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai comes out to a whopping $1.8 billion AED, but don't be alarmed it only comes out to be $490 million USD. That sounds much more reasonable than $1.8 billion, right? Maybe if you were a multi-billionaire who invests in many different businesses.

These are just 5 of Dubai's most elite buildings. These buildings are amazing feats of engineering in Dubai. If you go back to Dubai in 1955 you would not be able to recognize the city.
